Everyone wants to look a little boujee sometimes, but not everyone has the budget to spend boujee. Before I launched my blog, I tried building my following on Instagram first. I followed all these beautiful influencers and followers with amazing pictures and perfect outfits. I started getting discouraged because all of these girls with big followings had nice and expensive clothes with designer items that I could not afford. Even some of the “affordable” accounts that were just as small as I would throw in a designer bag or pair of shoes and seemed to be growing faster than me. It’s not that I felt like I needed those things to succeed. I knew that I would get to where I wanted to be eventually. I just felt like I couldn’t compete. So, I came up with a few tips to look expensive when you’re not really dressed expensively.

Long Coats

A long peacoat or trenchcoat has such a timeless look that will never go out of style. And will always look much more elegant and classier than shorter coats.

Structured Bags

A slouchy bag can ruin a nice outfit and make it look messy. A beautiful structured bag will have a more expensive and classy look and can tie your whole outfit together.

Pointed toe shoes

If you need a new pair of shoes for work, opt for the pointed or almond toes shoes rather than the round. Pointed toe shoes have a more chic look that will make you look like a Boss Babe. Round toes can seem a little cheaper and childish, depending on the shoe.

Minimalistic jewelry

When picking out jewelry for your outfit, go for something minimalistic and simple. Large statement jewelry can sometimes look gaudy or like costume jewelry. Simple is more elegant.

Keep it simple

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”

When it comes to fashion, I believe that less is more. You don’t need all of those considerable accessories to look better. Keep it simple and elegant.

Neutrals with a pop of color

Just like my last tip with keeping things simple. Try this tip with neutral colors and adding a pop of color. Don’t go overboard with crazy and funky colors.

Wear tailored peices/ peices that fit well

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Wearing ill-fitting clothes at work will make you look frumpy and a little sloppy. Try to find pieces that fit you as well as possible or have them tailored. Buy quality items when you can

If you can work it in your budget, splurge everyone now and then. I especially recommend this for pants and blazers. Sometimes it’s not worth buying cheap clothes that may or not look cheap at first, but look used and worn out after a few washes and uses.

Shop the dupes

An easy way to look expensive or boujee on a budget is by buying dupes for expensive brands. Do they always look exactly like the real thing? No. Will some people be able to tell it’s a dupe? Yes. Nevertheless, the dupes will still have the same put together look as the real thing.

Invest in a steamer

One of the most important things that will make you look put together and expensive in a crisp and wrinkle-free outfit. Honestly, you don’t need to invest that much into a steamer. I have found some pretty good ones on Amazon for about $20.
